Auditions
We have a variety of levels of experience and talent at SMCT. If you've ever wanted to be in a show, come to one of our auditions!
Auditions at the Santa Maria Civic Theatre are often different from a standard theatre audition. You may not be required to bring in a headshot, or prepare a monologue. The exact process is up to the director, and typically actors wanting to audition will come to the theater during a specified time and will be asked to read selections from the script with other actors. These auditions usually last one to two hours and it allows the director to see how different actors will look and sound with each other. Some directors will also schedule call-backs for specific actors before deciding on the cast. For musicals it is typical to have to prepare a portion of a song and present it to the director, music director (via a smart device and bluetooth speaker). Some musicals have a "dance call" where those auditioning will be taught part of a dance and asked to show it to the director, music director, and choreographer. We know not everyone is a dancer! Some people are movers. Mostly the audition panel want to see how you learn, take direction, and work with others.

THE STORY:
A hilarious story of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time whenwater is worth its weight in gold. In a dystopian city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging for the privilege to pee.
