PLOT SUMMARY
A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Unless otherwise noted below, all roles are open to all actors without regard to race, ethnicity, and body type. Roles are open to all genders. Gender-Nonconforming/Non-Binary actors are welcomed and encouraged to audition.
Jesus
High Tenor G#
Must be the most charismatic individual in the cast. High energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength. He is the sort of person others instinctively follow.
John The Baptist/Judas
Baritone E
They have attributes of both Biblical figures: They are both Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, they are also charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way. They are the most “serious” and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, they must still possess a good sense of physical comedy.
The Company
Listed below are the vocal ranges of the musical numbers. Please use this as a type of “character breakdown” since all Ensemble members will be addressed by their actual names. All Ensemble actors must have experience with harmony and improv. Any special “tricks,” ability to play musical instruments, or overall personal quirks are encouraged!
